A pulpotomy is a dental procedure used to treat tooth decay that has reached the pulp chamber but not the root canals. It involves removing the infected or inflamed portion of the pulp tissue from the crown of the tooth while preserving the healthy pulp in the roots. This treatment is commonly performed on primary (baby) teeth and sometimes on permanent teeth with immature roots. The goal is to maintain the vitality of the remaining pulp, prevent further infection, and allow normal tooth development or function. A medicated dressing is placed, followed by a crown or filling to restore the tooth.
